E. Waldo Ward & Son, on Highland
Avenue, evokes the town’s rural past
with a family jam-making business
begun in 1918. The founder supplied
marmalade to the dining cars of the
Union Pacific Railroad. Two and one-
half acres of tangerine and orange groves
remain, and all goods are still prepared
and canned on the property. Although
the product line is available online, vis-
itors can buy direct from a tiny gift shop
tucked behind the original farmhouse.
Ward’s lime marmalade is an incredible
sweet-tart confection that turns ordinary
toast into Key lime pie for breakfast.
